Adding to the frenzy of Print Week in New York, Additions, a 3-day show featuring artist’s multiples produced by independent curators and collectives, and organized by Maddie + Lauren VHS, was held at the Monster Island Basement, Brooklyn, concurrent with Prints Gone Wild. Printeresting’s PDF of the Month project was included, as well as the SP Weather Station 2008 and 2009 portfolios, Jason Kachadourian’s curated portfolio/zine “Awkhold” (in 7″ format!), and Eddie Martinez’s newsprint zine “Spirit-Duder.” Artist’s editions from Apartment Show, Daily Operation and Light & Wire Gallery were also included, in a wide range of formats from photocopies, video, hand-bound books and portfolios, to combs and mix cds.
Designed to accompany exhibitions, or to complement a broader program, these editions document temporary shows, provide an affordable and easily produced artwork, and allow for greater collaboration between artists and organizers. In many cases, the medium of the edition speaks to the sensibility of the greater project, ranging from from hand-bound portfolios and screenprints to photocopied zines and pdfs.
